[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We’ve all heard the myths of students who pull revision all-nighters before an exam and walk out of the hall with a top grade.
But how likely is it that a sleepless night of short-term memorising will help you perform on exam day? The truth is, not very likely at all.
Cramming has become the default for far too many students, particularly those sitting their GCSEs and A Levels.
“With the right strategies, we can stop exam revision cramming in its tracks, and better empower youngsters to show up as their best selves throughout the study process” – Dr. Tej Samani
Not because they’re lazy or disorganised, but because they don’t know a better way to prepare, and actually learn, for their exams.
At Performance Learning, that’s exactly what we taught in our Stop The Cram workshop, hosted in our very own virtual classroom.
It was a two-hour session for students aged 10 to 16, designed to help your child take control of their revision – and their results.
Here are the four techniques we teach to stop cramming exam revision:
1. Chunking over cramming
We show students how to break big subjects into smaller, bite-sized chunks that are easier to process and recall, making revision feel less overwhelming from the start.
2. Confidence through clarity
When students understand why a strategy works (not just what to do), their confidence skyrockets. Our methods are built around neuroscience, so students learn in a way that suits how their brain actually works.
3. Repeatable, reliable frameworks
Cramming is chaotic, while our diverse system is repeatable. Once students know how to apply our frameworks, they can use them across any subject, exam or academic stage, again and again.
4. Mindset shifts that stick
We go beyond revision tactics. Performance Learning builds the mental habits behind long-term academic success: resilience, self-awareness and ownership over their learning journey.
With the right strategies, we can stop exam revision cramming in its tracks, and better empower youngsters to show up as their best selves throughout the study process.
What’s next?
If you missed our Stop The Cram session but are looking to help yourself or your child regain control of their education, then do not worry.
Our next online workshop is coming up soon, and it’s called Stop The Summer Slide.
Hosted in our virtual classroom at Performance Learning, it’s all about giving students the tools to keep learning alive in summer.
Let’s be clear: it’s not about piling on more pressure. We’ll be focusing on strategies that are light-touch, low-stress and totally doable.
